ByNamaste Yoga has become a popular choice in stores that sell consumer DVDs on a variety of sports, exercise or fitness poses for health improvement. Since the word “yoga” is fairly commonplace, most people wonder what the word “Namaste” means and how does it make this form of yoga different?
Not all forms of yoga are alike and it’s important to know that fact. Although it might seem that one type of yoga has to be better than another, this is not the case and some versions of yoga are better suited to some students than others, depending on their personal goals.
Of these various schools of thought and yoga study methods, the term Namaste Yoga has been a term that many people have appropriated to describe a school of thought in regards to teaching yoga.
What Namaste Means
Since the word “Namaste” means “I bow to you” in India, it describes this type of yoga. This is a form of respect and it is usually stated while bring oneís hand together in a steeple position while bowing at the same time. This is usually performed at the beginning and end of a class and the words ìNamasteî is stated while doing this. For western students, saying this word at the beginning and end of the class is a good tie to the origins and spiritual roots of the artform.
Most of the exercise videos in the marketplace just show off a collection of basic yoga exercises rather than specific Namaste poses. The basic exercises on the video will show the individual how to study yoga and how to do the simple yoga exercises that do not need instructor teaching. Using an instructor to learn yoga can be an important and integral way to truly master the art of Namaste yoga although the DVDs can provide a good start for the basics.
Yoga is an excellent form of exercise and those looking to take part in it for physical benefit are making a wise choice. However, as the term Namaste infers, there are a number of historical and cultural aspects to the art that should be learned as well.
