POWDER SPRINGS, Ga. – Powder Springs police said that 18-year-old Rajaan Bennett was killed in a murder-suicide early Thursday morning.
Bennett, a running back at McEachern High School, had just signed in the beginning of February to play with the Vanderbilt Commodores.
According to NewsChannel 5’s CBS Atlanta Affiliate WGCL, police received a 911 call from someone in Bennett’s house Thursday morning whispering for help. When police arrived and knocked on the door, four to five gunshots rang out.
The running back’s mother, 37-year-old Narjaketha Bennett, and uncle, 32-year-old Taiwan Hunter, fled the home. WGCL said Hunter had been shot, and was taken to Atlanta Medical Center where he underwent surgery.
Also, two juvenile family members fled the home unharmed.
WGCL said police identified the suspect as Narjaketha’s ex-boyfriend.
